The Oakland Raiders have quietly used the 2017 offseason to prepare for one grand goal; to capture that elusive Super Bowl championship for the city they must soon leave. Head coach Jack Del Rio, followed by captains Derek Carr and Khalil Mack, are ready to continue upon their 2016 dominance.

After their 12-4 record and return to greatness, the 2016 season was hampered by the season-ending injury to Carr. The Raiders fought hard behind a rookie quarterback, but were unable to emerge with the Wild Card victory. After that unfortunate loss, the Raiders quickly moved on and understood that all signs pointed towards 2017.

The NFL Network put together a segment on the franchise, heading into the 2017 season. The Raiders are the premiere choice to dethrone the New England Patriots in the AFC. NFL Network analyst David Carr, who just so happens to be Derek’s brother, stated that the Raiders have done a magnificent job in building their roster:

“I think it’s the Raiders time. You look at how they’re built, it’s built from the trenches. The offensive line is the key to this offense. Yeah they have a great receiving core, Marshawn Lynch being back there is phenomenal, Derek’s able to do some great things, but it’s all because of the guys up front.”

According to Vegas Insider, Oakland enters the 2017 season with the fifth best odds to win the Super Bowl LII, with 15/1 odds. Bleacher Report has the Raiders slated to finish the 2017-18 season with a 11-5 record, ready to enter the playoffs.

The additions of Marshawn Lynch, Jared Cook and Cordarrelle Patterson have bolstered this already elite offensive unit, while free agent signings and the 2017 NFL Draft provided a chance to upgrade the defense.
