With the Oakland Raiders up 26-16 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth quarter, the team elected to punt on fourth down with 3:43 remaining in the game. However, a botched snap to punter Marquette King resulted in him questioning the punt and taking off from there.

On fourth and 24, King sprinted towards the right sideline and picked up enough yardage to get the first down, before stepping out of bounds as the Jaguars approached him.

King’s athletic abilities have always been on display, as the punter’s long strides and quickness gained separation from the Jaguars.

Along with his usual booming punts, that conversion on fourth down earned the Georgia native the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Aside from the first down, his five punts totaled for 273 yards, for a net average of 50.6 yards per punt.

Four of his punts were placed inside the 20-yard line, while one fell inside the 10-yard line. That 50.6 average actually ranked first amongst punters this week.

The 27-yard rush that resulted in a first down put the nail in the coffin, as it eventually led to Latavius Murray’s second touchdown of the game.

This AFC honors for King also comes on a special day. Oct. 26 marks King’s 28th birthday!
