The Oakland Raiders recently reported to Training Camp with high expectations for the upcoming season after going 12-4 a season ago.

The team returns all of its key contributors, including all of their core offensive lineman that was the best in the NFL in sacks against last season.

One of those lineman is left tackle Donald Penn, who was named to his second career Pro Bowl in 2016 after allowing just one sack the entire season.

Despite having Super Bowl aspirations, Penn is currently putting those on hold as he is not reporting to Trianing Camp with the rest of his teammates, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:

Penn signed a two-year deal with the Raiders last offseason after spending the first seven years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is set to make $7.1 million this upcoming season, while fellow lineman Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson have all recently received pay upgrades.

The Raiders recently released right tackle Austin Howard, which will save them $3.6 million. If Penn decides to holdout for the entire preseason, then the Raiders have the ability to give him the money they saved by releasing Howard, but how serious Penn’s holdout is and how serious the Raiders are about keeping him remains to be seen.
