The Raiders welcomed the Minnesota Vikings in the season finale, looking to clinch a winning record on the year.
The defense picked off Vikings’ quarterback Fran Tarkenton five times en route to a 27-21 victory. Lester Hayes led the effort with two interceptions, while Mike Davis, Ted Hendricks and Monte Jackson each had one apiece. The defense also forced and recovered two fumbles, including one that was returned 31 yards for a touchdown by Charlie Phillips.
On offense, the Raiders finished with 168 yards on the ground, led by Mark van Eeghen with 92 yards and a score. Quarterback Ken Stabler finished with just 88 passing yards but found Fred Biletnikoff for 13-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Biletnikoff finished with three catches for 34 yards and the touchdown. Kicker Errol Mann added two field goals to provide the difference in the game.
That season, the Raiders finished 9-7 and failed to make the playoffs.
